About Us

On West 44th Street, just off the Broadway corridor, Birdland Jazz Club has been the city's definitive jazz address for over seven decades. Named for the great Charlie Parker, known to his bandmates as "Bird," this room carries that legacy without treating it like a museum piece. The musicians who take this stage, from the Gil Evans Project delivering spine-tingling Miles Davis tributes to the Anderson twins reimagining the American Songbook with swing-era textures, play with the kind of urgency that reminds you why jazz never gets old.

The room itself earns as much praise as the performers. Seating wraps close to the stage, the sound system is dialed in, and the layout is intimate enough that you can watch a saxophonist's fingers or catch a drummer's smile. Reviewers with nearly 5,000 opinions on record give it a 4.7, and the word that keeps coming up is "cozy." That is not a small thing for a Manhattan venue that books internationally recognized talent six nights a week.

What We Offer

A night at Birdland is a full sensory experience, not just a concert ticket. The kitchen sends out thoughtful small plates, including a meatball appetizer that regulars order without looking at the menu. The bar program runs deep, with craft cocktails built to last through a two-set evening and a wine list that holds its own.

Seating options let you calibrate your experience. Table seating puts you front and center with full food and drink service, and most regulars consider the modest price difference over bar stools the best ten dollars they spend in New York. Private event bookings are available for corporate gatherings, milestone celebrations, and music-focused private parties. The calendar rotates constantly, covering straight-ahead jazz, big band nights, Latin jazz, and special tribute productions that sell out well in advance.

"We attended a performance of the Gil Evans Project’s Miles Davis tribute and we were blown away by the excellence of the musicians, sound quality, and intimate environment with the band. We also highly appreciated the front door attendant with the mid length brown hair who was so given to world class customer service even though we arrived too early and he was unable to let us in. He definitely cared about our well-being and was super accommodating; instead we chatted with another friendly person in line from Brooklyn. The food was substantial and tasty. The atmosphere was awesome with the traditional velvet curtain, club table seating, and pictures of jazz artists posted throughout. The sound quality and ability to be so close to musicians was phenomenal. I would highly recommend and would definitely attend again! Try to be early for the first-come, first-serve seats!"

"enjoyed by myself, was an amazing experience, as always. Tonight enjoyed terrific jazz interpretations by Anderson twins of the American songbook with swing era textures, color contrast with their different and complementary instruments, uniquely good twin phrasing because they are! Went for the great sound of the room, specifically this music, sax clarinets flute + great backing band including drummer pianist and bass who had their own great solos. Easy to be alone, requested fringe solo elevated table matching backed chair, highest tier at the back wall near kitchen so decent ventilation, traffic so no stagnant air. Terrific integrated sound at such seating. Enjoyed the fruit and cheese plate, which was fine to meet the minimum. Kept my mask on as much as possible because 850,000 new cases today of COVID in the USA, still killing, with >80% over 65 y/o and I anticipate returning."

"Don’t sit at the bar. Spend the extra $10 and watch the show from a table. Meatball appetizer was good. Needed a couple more crostinis though. Very thoughtful intimate and cozy layout. Nice atmosphere. Was a lovely evening of jazz entertainment."

"We had an amazing evening at this jazz club! The atmosphere was vibrant yet cozy, with incredible live music that set the perfect tone for the night. The musicians were extremely talented and kept the crowd entertained from start to finish. Dinner was just pretty tasty—we had lasagna and Cajun jambalaya. The service was excellent too: friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience seamless. It’s not easy to find a place that combines great food, top-notch live music, and a welcoming vibe, but this spot does it all. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a fun and memorable night out!"

"⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ An evening at Birdland Theater is not just a night out—it’s a journey into the soul of New York. The moment the lights dim, the room transforms into a living stage of emotion, elegance, and rhythm. Velvet shadows, glowing lights, and the quiet anticipation of the audience create an atmosphere charged with magic. And then—the music begins. Each note breathes, each melody tells a story. The musicians don’t just perform… they seduce, they captivate, they transport you. Time slows, and for a moment, nothing exists beyond the sound. The service is seamless, the ambiance intoxicating, and the entire experience feels like stepping into a classic film—timeless, intimate, unforgettable. If you want to feel New York… truly feel it—this is where you go."

Straight-ahead jazz is the foundation, but the calendar also includes big band performances, Latin jazz, American Songbook tributes, and special production shows. Check the website at birdlandjazz.com for the current schedule.

Can Birdland host private events?

Yes. Birdland accommodates private bookings for corporate events, birthday celebrations, and special occasions. Contact the venue directly through birdlandjazz.com to discuss availability, capacity, and catering options.
